Leading foundation art students through Time Studio at Virginia Commonwealth University, I developed an assignment to introduce students to 3D animation using video-to-motion-capture. After being led through a movement workshop with dance-artist and choreographer, Alexa West, I asked students to select a character model from Mixamo and in response, develop movement and sound around that character. Students recorded videos of themselves performing their action, processed the clip in Plask, and edited their animation in Blender to make a perfect loop. I assembled students' animations and characters in a standalone application using Unreal Engine 5.
